what are the rules/laws regarding planning permission for mobile home and park homes in the uk?
if i were to buy (or rent) a piece of land, probably in a rural area in the uk, would i be allowed to put a static caravan/mobile home/park home on there or would i need planning permission? also if i were to build my own basic structure from timber resembling a park home, what would the situation be with that one? i wouldn't be thinking of selling it so that is not a factor. many thanks
you will need planning permission (even if you are a gypsy)
you need to talk your local planning office.they normally have a duty officer who will advise you if you call in.
development in the country is very constrained outside a settlement boundary. the Local Development Framework or Core Strategy will specify what they normally allow +where.
one exception is if you are making charcoal and need to be on site 24-7.
it depends on previous use of the site; number of visitors you expect; local services; road access ...
There are also strict rules on materials and placement of park homes due to fire risks, gas canisters, and health issues of condence/damp and formaldahyde off-gassingStatic caravan in a residential park?
We want to live in a static caravan on a residential park but are struggling finding any. Most parks only seem to offer 'park homes' which are very expensive and seem to cater mainly for 50+ semi retired people. We are in our early 40's and will occasionally have children visit. I've also heard that there is a law preventing people from having a static caravan as their main residence.
Any help, advice or useful links would be really appreciated.
park homes and other similar sites are for older people, they are supposed to be quiet and children free.
I dont think children visiting are a problem. They just arnt allowed to live there.
Park home sites have a licence to be open 12 months of the year and people can call them their main residence. You have to buy the home, but you only rent the pitch it is placed on. You still have to pay the camp for site fees, and council tax. ect.
Any other sites with static caravans are classed as holiday homes. They have to close the camp for a short time, maybe 6 to 12 weeks, it is so that they cannot be classed as residential homes.
The two have different rules and regulations, and are pretty strick.Park home mortgage? do they exist?
Basically my hubby and I would like to sell our house in the midlands and buy a park home/caravan/chalet?, in Lincolnshire, however we need to know if there are mortgages for these types of homes?
Any advice would be great -thanks
you cannot get a mortgage for it you buy it with finance set up with the holiday park. im not sure you are allowed to live in them full time though, you would have to ask at the parkCaravan rental in and around the sierra nevada, spain?
My partner and I are going on a motorbike holiday next year and need to find a caravan park with mobile homes already there to rent for a week or two. Ive found plenty of parks where you take your own caravan but none where they have them ready to rent as it were.
Any suggestions or reccommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Caravan parks are not that popular in Spain - especially ones where you can turn up without your own caravan and rent one for a short period. You would be better off looking into a B&B as there are quite a few around that areaGood Caravan Sites or Parks or holiday homes in North & South Devon?
Hi, were looking to holiday in Devon this year and are looking for a nice caravan site or park in North or South Devon.

In 2004 I bought a mobile home which I was told I could live in for as long as I wished. This was made verbally to people in about 65 units. After a change of owner, they now state that these homes are not suitable as they are built to bs 4989.
They want to force us to either upgrade to their style of mobile home ie (park home) bs 3632 or leave the site. Allthough these are our permanant addresses and have their own post code, refuse collection etc. The unit I bought was the only one I was offered and was not informed of any other type available I live in NI where their is no legislation to say I can't live in this standard of unit. But the owner insists we must upgrade or get out. If we are forced out what redress do we have for being sold something which is claimed is unfit for the purpose it was sold to us.
I was hoping to be able to help you with this when I saw your earlier question but now you have informed us that you are in Northern Ireland I am not sure of my ground as the law may be different over there. I can therefore only speak generally on how the law applies in England and Wales.
The owners of a residential caravan site are required to provide you with contract for a term of lease of the pitch you occupy. This will carry the rules and conditions of tenancy which if you sign it you will be bound by. Over here it is not unusual for agreements to require the removal of a caravan once it reaches a certain age or in some cases if the unit becomes unfit or unsightly. You do not lose your pitch providing you continue to pay your fees but you can therefore be required to upgrade your van if you want to stay. Occupiers of residential sites also have similar tenancy protection to that enjoyed by people who rent houses though I am not qualified to advise you further in that particular respect. The CAB, a solicitor or possibly your local Council will be able to help you.
I have never heard of anyone who has been forced to upgrade their caravan solely because it is not of a particular BS number and I would be very suspicious if this is the only reason you are being asked to do so. I would say that if it is not in your pitch rental agreement that you have to replace the van you probably cannot be made to. It is imperative that you seek proper advice before things go any further. If all other affected occupiers group together you can club together for a solicitor at a relatively low cost. Good LuckCan I live in a caravan for a year and park it anywhere?
I am going to be working away from home in Scotland during the week. I was thinking of cutting costs by living in a caravan Mon - Fri and living at home at the weekends.
What kind of caravan do I need? Should I use a caravan park or could I get away with parking in different lay-bys/ roadsides each night? Could I survive with a solar panel and gas stoves/heaters etc (without needing an electric hook-up)?
There are laws about where you can park caravans. And by the roadside is not a good idea - it would rock every time a car went by for a start. Laybys can have restrictions and may be right next to main roads which isn't good. You'd have to park at a caravan park or site which could become costly. There are some sites which are cheap though, but you won't get electric or anything. You'd have to check otu what's in the area.
You could have any caravan - whatever you like. Doesn't matter. You could also survive without electric. Might not be easy though.
As already suggested, a motorhome or campervan may be better as there is no towing involved. Same applies though - you can't just park anywhere in them either. My caravan is parked off the main road outside my home, do I have a right to park it there?
It has my vehicle number plate on at all times and is not causing an obstruction as it is parked in a parking space off the main road designated for my car, it is not causing an obstruction nor blocking visibility of any crossings. I have had it parked there for over 4 months now and it, without the problem until now, I think one of my neighbours has complained. Do have have to move it or have I got aright to park it there?
I guess I haven't made it exactly clear on where the caravan is parked, Its off the main road parked outside my house in what I can only describe as a hard shoulder type parking bay with spaces for 5 residents on my block, I t is classed however as off road parking though. Hope this makes it a little clearer, thanks!
different councils have different rules, check with the local council.can you buy a caravan on a campsite and make money on it as a holiday base ?
I have a small amount of money to invest & I am thinking of buying a caravan / statick mobile home. Does anyone also do the same thing and make an income from renting it out to holidaymakers while the caravan is sited on a caravan park. Is there a website or company who deals with this kind of system of renting caravans ?
The main thing to think of when starting such a venture is the changeovers, ie preparing the caravan for the next renters, if you don`t live near the camp you will have to pay someone to do it, which will cut into your profits. Some camps may offer the service, for a fee.
Just type caravans to rent into search there is a load of info. Are there any caravan parks in the UK?
Hi,
I have just bought a mobile home/static caravan and I need a place to put it. I have been trying to find sites, but they only seem to be hiring their own caravans out. So I was just wondering if there are any sites anywhere in the UK with places available?
Well firstly I have to say you must have a lot of money, it costs thousands per year to keep a static caravan at these sites.
This site might help:
http://www.uk-sites.com/
But if you ask me I think you would be better with a large touring caravan.
