Can anyone advise me. I changed electric supplier about 8 months ago and have not had a bill off either one. I must be the only person getting free electric. What should I do as I do not want a load of bills comming all at once. Someone plese give me some suggestions. Thanks

hi there

I had a similar thing with two big major uk electric companies and I had to make countless telephone calls and was pulling my hair out. ahhhhhhh I could have screamed at them.

after about 6 months later they finally managed to get there act together and said the computer had got the details wrong, more like someone had made a mess of putting the details in.

I said what if I refuse to pay you as I dont think the bill is right. they said they would gladly send the bill to a debt collector. So they soon want there money but they should be happy that people are wanting to go to them.

Think I will give it a while and may just go back to the original supplier where I should have stayed as my experience was just sheer hassle.

In a nut shell I think you will have to keep on at them to get it right and do keep a note of the times you telephoned, who you spoke to and keep any letters. I think you have to be a bit more organised than what they are.

That was my expereince hope yours gets sorted soon

hello there fellow forum user.

I did this change electric supplier quite sometime ago and oh my word here we go.

I had one hell of a night mare also.

The new comapany said all they and myself do is just complete a form and sign and they do the rest. Ok I thought that is straight forward enough. The form bit was but it was after that.

I also had no bills for 6 months and I had to keep telephoning both companies up to see who was doing what. I like many others only wanted to save a bit of money on the electric bill but I tell you what I am not going through that again as I had to pay for what was used inbetween them messing about. I did how ever manage to get them to agree to me paying them so much a month until caught up. All I got was a sorry over the phone and a big bill to pay.

It is all paid now and I get the bills every quarter again. I think they said it was a computer error but someone has to tell the computer what to do to start with so it must have been a human.

I think I will stay where I am now.

I will say to anyone changing electric companies that you should take notes and chase it up to see all is going ok. I dont think all are like this I and a couple others must have got the short end of the stick.

I have not changed electric supplier but it sounds like you need to chase them up, both companies.

I currently have my supply with Eon and they seem to be quite good. I get 3 tarrif rates. The first 215 day units is at 30.89p then any other day units after that is 12.33p also per KWH. Then I have the Economy 7 rate that is 4.58p per KWH. I put my washer, tumble dryer and dishwasher on in the early hours of the morning to get the best saving of electric and I have all energy saving bulbs in the whole place.

So if you are with Eon like me then you get a good rate although you may have a good rate with whom you are with but like I said earlier and that is that you really need to chase the two companies up so as to get your bills sorted out otherwise I feel that you could get two lots of bills all at once and both will want there money there and then. Cool

Smile I agree with the above also. Chase those electric companies up. Sometimes there can be a general error in the information being passed over from one to the other and the system not being updated. I know they all say it was the computer but at the end of the day someone has to tell the computer what to do.

That will be interesting if you get to electric bills at the sametime.

I also have a really good supplier. I get the first 225 units at X amount of pence then after that it drops down to X amount of pence then there is the economy 7 for which I also have. That suits me just fine.

I have my dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine oh and the immersion heater come on in the early hours of the morning. I tell you what the Economy 7 is a really good deal. I have all the items on timers. Bit of a nightmare when the clocks change as I have 4 of those to change and what ever else I have got to change.

So my best advice is get it sorted sooner rather than later as I do not know anyone who gets free electric unless you live at home with parents then you just turn lights on and please yourself then because you are not paying the bill. Big smile

Yeah, I agree, sooner or later they will realise that they have neglected to bill you for the previous months and they will send you a very large bill. There is no way to get around this really, other than to contact them and find out what the problem is.

  • How do I find out how my gas and electric suppliers are?

Hi, I don't know who my gas and electric companies are. I remember in my last flat I rang some company and they could tell me my suppliers, but I can't remember who they were. Strangely no one else seems to have heard of them.

    National something I think
Yes I know the information is given on your bill. I haven't had one yet.
My landlord is useless and knows nothing.
My housemates all moved in the same time I did.
No I do not want to change suppliers, you do that you end up spending the next year trying to persuade the old company you are no longer with them and spelling out your name for the new company. (Not that I'm bitter or anything, but the amount of trouble I've had with different utility companies is mad)
i thought i was with british gas but when i phoned them they said i wasnt but they gave me phone number to phone to find out sorry i dont have the number but phone british gas they should give you the number
  • How do I find out who my current gas and electric suppliers are?

OK, so just got the keys for my house and there is no gas or elec switched on, the landlord is clueless as to who currently has the supply.I know you used to contact Energywatch but they are no longer running. so how do i find out? Thanks in advance.
Introduce yourself to the neighbors in each side and across the street of the new house and ask who they are using as the gas and electric suppliers. Great way to get started at a new place.
  • Do you think it is unfair by the gas/electric suppliers to be charging the elderly as much as the rest of us?

In this day and age they shouldn't have to choose between food or fuel. And should they be exempt from having prepayment meters installed considering that they overcharge by an average of 30% ? Should the government intervene more?
yes because my grandma only has a 1000 dollars a month of social security to live off of and she is barely making it. its hard for her to pay for medications too because they are so expensive.
  • what are the best combined gas and electric suppliers?

who offers you the best deals and not much hassle?
    I use Ebico.
    You could try moneysupermarket.com.
  • Is there a website that lists all electric/gas suppliers prices?

I don't mean uswitch etc, i just want to see who charges what so i can compare in one go, nothing to do with what i use...just somewhere that informs.
    Yes http://www.uswitch.co.uk
  • gas/electric suppliers, with good customer service, and prices?

which uk gas/electris supplier is the best for customer service and price, when paying on direct debt. separate company's or both fuel types supplied by the same company?
    I've checked out uswitch.com plus moneysupermarket.com & a few other's.

Its other's peoples POV and experiance of the different company's I'm really after.
    Hi Sue,

I've also found BG very bad, price wise and customer service, this is why i'm changing my supplier...... what you have said must be the most upsetting thing for you and your family.

bigoll... the price of BG is extreme where i live, plus swalec also don't have a standing charge for their customers.... as for uswitch.com.
really i think it is upto the individual to check out the actual facts for that actual company.

Frutticup- i have found on my searching that scottish power seem reasonable in what they are offering.

    Thanks everyone for answering
Check on uswitch .com and they rate by price and customer service
  • Hi need some help I have recently opened a buisness I told the the old gas electric suppliers that I am ?

Using another company buy phone so stop supplying instead they continued and sent me a bill for 2700 for 2 months worth estimated from previos user because they have not got meter readings from when I started I have now got debt collectors chasing me threatening court injunctions what shall I do as I have not responded some body help me guide me please
The previous owner should have read the meter and told them they have sold the business. You need to pass this on to your Solicitor who can contact the previous owner. You need to send them details of your contract with your new suppliers. They will then see the date on which the utility was transfered to another company. You do not have to pay 2 suppliers. If you cannot understand any of this talk to your Solicitor or CAB.
  • buying house, have been told cant change gas and electric suppliers for the first 3 week.is this true?

call the utility co. you want to switch to and see what they say
  • hi i have just moved into a new flat im looking for best gas and electric suppliers my gas is currently with?

british gas and electric with scottish southern who would i be better of with supplying my energy
If you get both your gas and electricity from the same supplier you will get a discount. To find the cheapest supplier is quite difficult but Ive found USwitch to be a good website.
  • why do electric suppliers come to read the meter?

every so often like every few month i get a guy from EDF at the door wanting to read my meter dont they already have the information they on there computer database or something???

what exactly is he reading on my meter???
hang on a minute my meter is a pre pay key meter i take the key round the shop to charge it up so why would they be interested where the electric is going
Are you real??? They need to read the meter in order to see how much electricity you have used, so they can send you a bill....... It doesn't come free you know!
