Points System

After speaking with a work friend recantly. They was telling me that there son has got offered a place at one of the uni's.

But there is a but. He has to get so many points and a shed load of qualifactions as well to get in.

This uni had a points system of say 200 points and 10 exam passes to get in for the said course. They have now said you need 12 exam passes and 300 points along with the massive fee they have to pay.

I think the uni's are following the government. Say one thing and do the other two minutes later. I will be amazed if any student knows if they are coming or going.

This points system sounds like a bit of a raw deal my friend.

There must be some sort of guide lines to say that these uni's can not just change there mind like that. May be it is to try and keep the riff raff out, you know the oiks.

So they have already put the fee up to a high amount and now they are putting the level up you have to jump over to get in. They are being really picky.

Are so give it time we will have a country that is only the one that has people with 20 gcse's claiming dss money as they are over qualified to get a job as a dustbin lorry assistant and so on.

Oh really whats it all coming to.

I also think that this points system is a bit of a carry on as well.

I thought you got so many gce's and then went to the uni and said I have 7 gce's and wish to apply for this course if it is not already full up.

It is getting weigh over my head now. They all seem to competing against each other.
I can understand they want to be the best but come on at this rate they will all have to take a mortage out just to apply before long.

  • points system?

if you get a down thumb on your answer do you lose points? i mean some people give you down thumbs for fun. also do you earn points for voting it seems so hard trying to get to diff levels. also do you get more points for getting a up thumb.
    Ok... HAHA Make This Easy

*Thumb Up*: The Amount Of Thumb Up You Get For Your Answer Is One Point Each BUT It Only Count If Your Answer Was Chosen For The BEST ANSWER...

*BEST ANSWER*: You Get 10 Points And If You Have Any Thump Ups, It Will Add With It. Lets Say Your Answer Was Good To Be Chosen So That 10 PT. And You Got 3 Thumbs Ups, That Will Be 13 Pt. That You Get... HAHA

*Thump Down*: Is Nothing Really... It Make Your Answer Look Bad For When Its Time For The Voting To Cast. It Will Not Make Your Pt. Go Down Or Anything... It Just Slim Your Chances To Being A BEST ANSWER...

OH YEAH!!! You Can Only Thump Up/Down Ppl Answers When You Reach To LEVEL 2

I Hope That Answer It... And Really I Dont Know Why We Get Pts. Anyway, Its Not Like We Can Trade It For Item On Anything... HAHA I Guess Its Just To Boost Your Self To Answering Other Pplz Question?

  • In the ATP tennis ranking points system, how many points does a player get for defending a title?

For example, Federer defended his title in Cincinnati this year while if he had lost the final he would have dropped points. But does the fact that he defended the title mean he gets another 1000 points or does he get no bonus points seeing as he matched last year's result? I have always been confused by this detail of the ranking system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When a tennis player matches his/her previous year's result, he or she does not receive any points because the same number of points that are deducted (from the previous year) are gained back again (from the current year's result). That's how it works, so it's a bit harsh. Someone could win a tournament two or more years in a row, but will receive zero points every time except for the first time he or she won the title.
  • Can we not impose the same points system as Australia does on Immigration into the UK?

The NHS was established in the 1940's for the British people. It cannot cope with the influx of immigrants coming into the UK using its services for free. If we are to move with the times and allow more immigrants into the UK then whatever government is in power should give more money to the NHS not make cuts,
or it should impose a points system.
How about a freeze until our economy recovers? This government saw immigrants as Labour voters.
    Illegal or otherwise.
  • How does the points system work?

How does this points system work on this site? I have 130 points and at level 1-but I don't know what this means! Is it just a way of making people want to come back ie giving them a sense of achievement?
    Thanks.
Thank you very much! I've been using the "mobile site" and couldn't see an about option but now I'm on the desktop site to edit this I can see what you mean! Xx
To answer your first Q.... move your cursor up to the tab that says "ABOUT" and click on "points and levels" from the drop down selection. This explains the basics of how levels are achieved and the "rewards" that come with getting higher levels. With 130 points, you need 120 more points to get to level 2. You'll have to answer about 50 more question and get a hand-full of "Best Answers" to get there. You can also get points by voting on best answers on closed questions (even if you just vote for yourself). When you get to level 2 you can ask 10 questions (per day) instead of 5. You will be able to answer 40 questions (per day) instead of 20.

Yahoo Answers is basically like a blog or a one-shot forum. I come to Y!A to give advice to people that are having car problems BUT I move around a lot to other things because I like to learn and I enjoy some of the stupid answers that people give to the dumbest of questions.
If you've seen the viral video "How is Babby formed?" you know what I'm talking about....
  • Will the new Points Based System work permit affect me, even though I've already got a job here in the UK?

I've been working at my job for almost three years now. Now, the gov is bringing in a new policy for workers where they have to earn enough points in order to be allowed in. I've already got a job but when it comes time to renew my work permit, the job I have may not be in the shortage category. Will this matter and will I have to go through the new points system?

  • Will the USA every adopt a points system for immigration?

A similar points system to the likes of Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
There's one thing that I know for sure...we need to stop the illegal immigrants from getting into the USA. The illegal immigrants will continue to corrupt America. We allow
anyone to come in here, pop out babies like machine guns, (bonus
check for welfare, which means more money) and allow anyone born here
to become automatic U.S. citizens. Think of the U.S. as a small jar.
Think of the world as a massive glass container. The marbles
represent the people...as long as you try to put more and more in
from the large jar (represents the entire world), to the small jar
(U.S.), eventually, it will start overflowing. That is what is
happening...overpopulation is HUGE right now. The rate we are going
at, we won't ever be able to build enough roads, houses, schools,
hospitals, etc., the way we are growing. The economy is bashed every
single year. I have no idea how much the budget is for illegals, but
it has to be billions, even trillions of dollars. They come here, get
free food, health care, rob from Social Security, live off of
welfare. The more kids they have, the more checks they get, so why
not have eight to ten kids? The financial burden is horrible...no
telling how many trillions these illegals are costing us yearly. How
do we stop this crisis? Well, just take the benefits away. If we
didn't have all the FREE things to offer, they wouldn't be coming
here. The education...HAVE ALL BOOKS IN ENGLISH. Don't let the
illegals get college education...take them back to Mexico if they
can't get citizenship (it's not like it's hard in the first
place...it may be a long process, but not hard.) The unemployment
rates will continue to rise because they come here, don't work or
anything, get everything for FREE, so why should they work...they
just get everything handed to them in the first place. If they get
paid to sit on their butts eating burritos all day instead of
working, why not? Bringing more people in to take jobs...BS! If a
legal U.S. citizen needs a job bad enough, he/she will do whatever
they have to do to get that extra money. If you can't handle the
    answer, don't ask the question.
  • im starting weight watchers points system. how does the 35 flex points work and how many of the earned points?

through exercise can i use in a week? I am doing it in Finland and it is called points eat and enjoy program. is it the same as the normal points system?

I had baby 6 months ago and am strugling to lose the last 6kg :(
You get 35 extra points to use throughout the week. You can use 5 a day, you can save them all for a splurge, or you can choose to use none at all. When you earn points thru exercise, called activity points, you can ONLY use them on the day you earn them. You cannot save them for another day of the week. :-)

I am not sure about the Points eat and enjoy program, but since you said its from weight watchers, it pretty much sounds like the flex points program offered in the states.

Good luck to you and I hope I helped :-)
