Cheap Accomodation Idea

dogwalker009's picture

I have just come up with a cheap idea for student accomodation and am quite pleased with myself.

Now all these students say renting a house or cottage is far to costly. . . So why not put a load of really up todate static caravans on a patch of land close by to the college.

That way they get somewhere nice and clean to live in, it is all up todate not like the old cold ones. As they would only be temporary accomodation like holiday homes then they would be laughing and should be cheap to heat.

Well I think it is a good idea. I don't know if there is any students kicking about on here or has anyone else got any suggestions to my charming idea.

Smile I would say it is a good idea you have there for cheap but tidy clean accomodation.

The only thing I can think of is that you may have to go to the local council first and put your ideas to them and see how you would go about this.

I am amazed that no one else has got this idea off the ground before. May be they think it will all get trashed or there could be to many regulations. The council may say that these types of homes are not suitable for people to live in fulltime and study. On the other hand you get caravan parks where people can go on holiday for a week or two so may be there is some legistration that says they can be used as holiday homes but for short period or if your home has been flooded or you are having major building work done or something to that affect.

My best suggestion is contact the council of your area as I know the above is all negative mainly but yes but if there is a chance you could do it and make it all spot on then that would be a great help to a lot of students surely.

All the best with your quest.

Thats a damn good idea for the student accomodation bit / idea you have there. I think that it is most excellent. But knowing what students are like it would be oh no they are not good enough for what we are use to.

Well it would be a damn sight cheaper for them and no dout cheap to heat etc then they would have more money for boose. In saying that all the students I have seen they all look well on what ever it is they eat but certainly find money for boose if not books but oh hang on they have iPads now not books silly me.

Wink That is a great idea mate. Gosh I would take up the offer if I was a student.

I am amazed that no one has done it already. I bet there must be some blooming legal red tape that stops them doing it or may be the insurance is to high. Urm hang on more like it is some cretain at the local council who has come up with some silly idea of why it could not be done.

May be one day we could see this in operation. Tongue

Whats this I have been reading then. It looks to be a very good idea. I say put the lot of them in the middle of a field. They soon go to a big pop concert in a field and end up paddeling about in mud so may be just give them some loud music where they wont bother anyone and they should be happy.

Still the static caravan idea is a good one.

I've just read a really interesting post on Park homes and caravans about someone making a suggestion for the use of Park Homes.

The idea someone has suggested is that an area of Park Homes be used as student accomodation.

Well I think it would be a cheap cost affective idea and that they could have some kind of warden / security guard to make sure all was ok.

This surely has to be a cheap but great idea in to economical housing for students as the tutition fees are going up.

  • Where is the best place to be in October for good weather and cheap accomodation?

I'm travelling Sept to Nov. Since I will be there for two/three months, I need cheap accomodation. Any ideas here? I am looking for good weather and I love beach life. The place should also be safe. I like somewhere that not every Englishman goes to (i.e. not Spain) Currently thinking of Brazil (Salvador, Rio) but hear this is a little dangerous, Cape Verde (boring?) and Thailand/Malaysia is in Rainy Season. Please help me with ideas!!
I've also heard that the Philippines will be in Rainy season during this time. Ths is something I want to avoid... I'm looking for SUN!!
Red Sea, Egypt, you will love it there, I go every year as it is the best place for scuba diving, food is good, people are friendly and you will get a nice tan even November, the value of our pound sterling is also very good there, enjoy.
  • Cheap accomodation for munich festival - any ideas munich much be easily accessed by train?

Hello myself and friend are going to oktoberfest and i am trying to fing cheap accomodation. i am happy to stay out of munich as long as we can reach munich within about 30min by train. thanks for help it is much appreciated
any ideas of city/town nearby which would be easy to get train/s-bahn connection to munich
You might be a bit late to get something cheap I will add you hrs the biggest hotel booker in Germany including a best available rate guarantee.

Check out the cities in the surroundings of Munich mostly towards the north of the city.
If you find something check if there is a train or S-bahn connection.
Do not hesitate to phone the hotel and ask the guys there.
Good luck you will need it.

EDIT hard to say where to check first I would try Freising and the direction of Ingolstadt and Landshut just check out on Google maps.

    EDIT II

The youth hostel is a good idea but you need to book at least 6 months in advance for the Octoberfest this year it is definitely too late!

Everybody knows that Munich will be booked for the Octoberfest!

  • Iv found some private accomodation at university, is this reasonable?

I was too late to get a place in halls so iv been looking at private accomodation to share with other freshers.

Its £80 a week including gas, electricity, water, broadband. does this seem cheap, expensive? Iv never rented anything before so I have no idea.

Also would you pay for a year upfront or just pay monthly and would you still have to pay when your on holidays?

    any help would be awsome
It really depends where you're living. I'm in Edinburgh and am paying roughly £80/week not including bills; a friend is in Lancaster and he's paying £65/week including bills.

You'd generally pay monthly if it's private accommodation, although if it's university-owned then you may be able to pay semesterly. And again, the paying-on-your-holidays thing depends on the letting service and how long the lease lasts. Mine is a 12 month lease, but my Lancastrian friend's is only 10 months. Again, if it's university-owned, or perhaps even UNITE owned (though I'm not 100% on this) it's more likely to just be during termtime, though the downside to this is that some uni accommodation requires you to move your stuff out at Easter and Christmas. If it's with a private landlord or a commercial agency, though, it might be a 12 month lease in which case you'd have to pay for the full 12 months.

It's definitely worth looking into it more thoroughly, certainly before you sign anything/give them any bank details. Have a look at other properties in the area and see what's being charged to get an idea. The Shelter website, oddly enough, also has a section about this, as will most uni websites, probably.

    Good luck!

  • Any ideas where I can book cheap flights to Oz with a stop over in the US or Tokyo?

I want to book flights to Australia for the christmas and new year period. I was hoping to do it with a stop over in either New York, Las Vegas, Niagra or Tokyo on the way there (between about 15th and 20th December). I only want flights, no accomodation. Do you know any good websites or companies I can phone to find multistop trips or round the world tickets. Have you done it and got any tips on keeping the cost down? Any information on the entire process would be greatly appreciated.
Christmas will be expensive, it'll be impossible to keep down the costs. New Year is Japan's big holiday so the flights from there will be ultra expensive.
  • can anyone recommend good hotel in new york?

Hello I am a student and was planning on travelling to new york the last week in june, first week july and was just wondering if anyone could recommend any good cheap accomodation within new yok that is quite close to the main tourist attractions? I'm looking to only spend about 1000 on accomodation, hopefully less! any good ideas?
I stayed at the Roosevelt on Madison Avenue which is very central and very close to the following tourist hot spots:
    Empire state building
    Rockefeller Centre
    Grand central station
    Central park
    Times square.
I was so happy with the location and service that I will defiantly consider staying there again.

Companys like Expedia usually do deals from time to time where you get a nights stay for free. check out the links below for further info.

  • Any suggestions for cheap self catering weekend in the UK?

I'm trying to arrange a hen weekend. Has anyone had a large group (10+) weekend break somewhere cheap? I don't want to ask people to spend more than about £50 on the accomodation. Not actually camping bringing own tents, but accommodation can be basic as it comes, caravan, house tent, whatever. Any ideas at all? Preferably somewhere not too difficult to get to from Cambridge/London. Thanks very much!
Angel - I mean England. Pref easy to get to from London/Cambridge. Thanks!
How about one of Park Resorts camps in clacton or Yarmouth ares. Go to www.parkresorts.co.uk
  • Accomodation whilst working in Malia????

2 of us are planning on going to work in Malia for the summer and wondered if anybody had any ideas on where we will be able to get cheap accomodation?
Asking any of the other workers in Malia, or any locals and you should have no problem, most of the accomodation is cheap anyway especially 2 of you sharing. I live in the neighbouring resort of Stalis and have heard it is cheaper to rent in Malia, so aim for around €300 a month, also say you are staying the whole season, if not you may be charged a daily rate, which works out more expensive
