Office Of Fair Trading

Well it is that time of year again and all the local rouge trader types have once again come out of the wood work.

After getting an email from Neighbor Hood Watch Group the office of fair trading are advising everyone to be on there guard as there are some of these d.i.y handy type people offering various sevices such as tarmacing drive ways, gardening, laying patios etc and all they do is make a complete bodge up along with half a job that is if they turn up at all and last but not least take a shed load of your money.

So be warned they are about.

Well I for one have already taken action. I have removed some items that are easy to carry and that have there own storage cases and have them inside the cottage in an area where they are not in the way nor can they be seen. I have also made sure my locks are extra secure.

They may still be able to get past locks if they want to but certainly make it as difficult as possible for them.

I do not intend for them to take from me what has taken a long time to buy.

Oh yes it is that time again where you need to make sure everything is even more so out of sight than normal.

I tell you those oiks will take your lawn mower if you look the other way while the other oik is asking you for directions. They have no fear no a days, if they want it then they will have it.

I have my place on silent alarm so I know before anyone else and there are no cables of detectors visable for them to disrupt.

So move on Mr oik / pikey your not welcome at out sheds. Try the big one marked Police above it they have alsorts of goods in theres along with some hand cuff and bed for the night at out cost - the tax payer.

  • As Activision are being reported to the Office of Fair trading over the Black ops fiasco should they?

Be forced to offer refunds on the grounds that this game is not fit for purpose?
Alan mate didn't it occur to you that a link might be appropriate here? Given as this isn't exactly front page news. Now I gotta look it up myself..

    Not good enough!

    Edit: @ WhoDares.. Thanks mate.

Ok now to answer the question, I would imagine some sort of compensation would be an appropriate outcome, if Activision are found to have unfairly penalised Playstation owners of this COD title. Whether that would be a full refund, I doubt it as the single player mode works fine as far as I can ascretain, and the bugs don't make the game totally unplayable. However, some sort of recompense, such as free DLC for those users affected which would normally be charged
  • A Supreme Court judgement has ruled that the Office of Fair Trading cannot investigate the fairness of bank ch?

The ruling has struck a grievous blow to the hopes of millions of bank customers to be refunded billions of pounds in bank charges for unauthorised overdrafts.

The decision follows more than two years of test case litigation. At stake is an estimated £2.6bn of annual income for the banks, which had appealed against earlier rulings.

Why do you think the court made this judgement? Have you reclaimed bank charges? Do you agree with the decision? What will be the impact of this ruling?
The reason for the court deciding the case this way was that bank charges are transparent, because the banks inform customers of them via leaflets and mailshots, bank notices, adverts and websites, and the charges are avoidable; you could simply manage your money better, spend less, and make sure the funding is in your account to cover outgoing bills.

Yes I agree with it, it would be ridiculous to prevent banks earning money, and very dangerous too. People have had the service of unauthorised borrowing, and it has a price.

If you think your bank's charges are excessive, shop around.
  • Can anyone tell me the basic difference between Trading Standards and the Office Of Fair Trading?

I wish to make a complaint against a company that I had a contract with. Due to no fault of my own, I was unfairly hit with a number of financial penalties during my time with them. I have been advised to forward complaints to both of these, by different people. There is also a company that owes me money and once paid me with a cheque that bounced. I also wish to make a complaint against these. If someone could explain the fundamental differences in these two organisations, I would appreciate it.
Trading standards deals mainly with breaches of legislation, like failure to complete a contract, using shoddy materials etc
and is run by each local authority

The OFT deals with market issues like are bank charges reasonable, will a merger give a company to big a market share, Are the supermarkets operating a cartel.

Thay are also responsible for overseeing and coordinating the local trading standards services.

If you are having problems with a company it would be trading standards that you would contact in the area that the company are based.

Personally I have never found them to be much use. They may stop a company trading, but are of little help if you are in dispute.
  • How do I complaint to the Office of Fair Trading about Santa's business practices?

  • Isn't it brilliant that The Office of Fair Trading is to investigate fortune tellers?

The UK Government has had the OFT investigate fortune tellers, soothsayers, mystics etc because they may be lying. Of course they are! it's hilarious, and a little worrying, that a Government department would actually spend time doing this. i think someones got too much time on their hands.

  • Survey- Office of Fair Trading says Tesco cashing in on Christmas- Who thinks that's impossible?

Tesco say certain offers ended a week before Christmas and prices reverted to their normal level.
There's Christmas spirit for you. Or is it called desperate spin?
everybody knows that demand goes up at christmas..they just trying to make more money for their executives families and share holders (which anyone can be if they invest in Tesco)..what is wrong there?
  • do you agree with the office of fair trading?

should banks be made to refund charges made on peoples accounts or should people accept responsibility for their own mistakes?
I think people should accept their own mistakes but the banks charge far too much for being just a small amount overdrawn. Maybe if the banks lowered their charges people wouldn't keep trying to claim refunds back.
