Housing Going To Waste

mouse4u1's picture

View a tv prog tonight, forget what it was called or the side it was on but anyway.
It had said there was thousands and thousands of homes just going to waste and the biggest majority of them would be knocked down.

The man on the tv spoke to someone from some council and they said they had no money but they have all the nice offices and nice cars as well etc.

So why the hell are councils and housing outfits not clubbing together and doing them up and getting a return on there investment.

I am amazed that two or three people have not got together and done a bit of d.i.y. I saw some of the houses on the tv and wow they were victorian and looked to be very sound. You could do a fair bit with them.

All over the UK it is like this and there is people who may be a single parent in need of a home or for many other reasons.

Would be interested to here if anyone else has any other suggestions on this particular topic.

hey there mr mouse.

I sat that same tv show that you are on about. It is just crazy that all those nice homes are going to waste. It is just unreal. Surely some housing outfit and a little help with the tax man could tidy them up and may be a slight alteration.
Hey presto a nice home for someone or a family weather it be a single parent / person or family.
Then they would get some rent from it and may be in time sell it and get there money back on the place and do more homes up.

I hope they are reading this and get there heads together.

It was really interesting to see that tv show and to what you can do with a property for little effort is quite good really.

I am glad somone else agrees with me on this subject and may be someone else will read it and be in a position to put a plan in to action.

Quite right Mr Mouse. I think someone should make a copy of the link where it can be viewd and make some jumped up suit in the government pull there finger out and stop trying to take the countryside and do up these other properties then there will be a few more people with a decant home to live in.

I have also noticed there does seem to be a lot of properties just going to waste.

You would think someone would snap them up and do something with them even if they only slap a bit of white paint about the place to make it clean and tidy.

They say on the news we have a housing shortage urmmmm right.

Yes that is a total shame that good houses going to waste.
Now don't tell me that they are the wrong size and shape. I am sure a few people could ban there heads together and make them quite nice without over doing the cost side of it.

If a new tenant of the property wants to put there own touch on it and spend there money then fine but at the end of the day it would be a home for someone who needs one.

Nice to see that everyone agrees with me on the houses going to waste.

It is shocking why all these people wanting to get properties just to rent out. I am sure with very little effort and outlay they could make them cost affective homes for people to rent. Even if there were a starter home for someone.

So in the meantime they just sit there empty and waiting to be knocked down because they have been left to decay !

I have just put post on Holiday Lets about the Olympics but then I see this post about all the empty houses all over the place.

If someone had half a brain they could have some of these made to look very presentable and rent them out at a good price.

Yes it is a shame they are going to waste and will only end up being knocked down.

Shocking !

  • need advice from anyone with drainage knowledge about a manhole?

i am moving an inspection chamber for the house waste over as the wall i am building for a conservatory goes directly over the existing which is 1m deep. What is the best way to build over it and to cover it up again as i dont want any problems at a later date
With it being a waste MH/Line. And without my being in your geographical area. The rules still apply. You must move the MH station to the outside of the structure. I highly doubt that any building dept. in any country will allow a permanent dwelling to be built over a line with sewer gas. Perhaps in an industrial plant... but only then with a sealed lid. Very Pricey Lid I May Add.
  • OK fortnightly bin collections.?

Right our house waste is not going to be collected now till every second monday, which is just not good to the enviroment air we are breathing, and test have shown that bins that are not emptyed weekly have the bactira that caused the black plague. and now the goverment thinks it fine to put microchips in our bins to scan how much we are recyling, ok so i dont recycle everything i should..i dont take the lables of my jam jars.. what do you guys think about this.
In Ireland, we have 2 bins, a green bin, for papers, cans, tins and I think they will soon take plastic bottles. Although I recycle my plastic bottles along with my glass bottles in the recycling bins in the local park.
Our other bin, which is collected weekly costs 8euro, every time we leave it out. Note the green bin is free.
The result, most people recycle, and only leave their bins out, fortnightly or depending on how many is in your household, weekly or even monthly. The option is there for weekly
I heard there was talk of having a third bin, for compost, but where we would all fit these bins I don't know.

It met with resistance when it was first introduced, the same as the levy for plastic bags, and remember Ireland was the 1st to introduce the smoking ban.....
But now, it's second nature, to recycle, bring your own bags and not smoke in front of others. Smokers in Ireland don't even smoke in their own homes now!!!

It's just the way the world is going, land fill is no longer an option
  • Recycling houshold waste?

With the introduction of fortnightly rubbish collections we are trying to decide what to do with our general house hold waste. The idea of keeping food products in storage for 2 weeks during the summer months is not option as far as I am concerned. And I am certainly not going to pay extra for it.

We have decided that we will collect the food waste separately and recycle it by feeding it to the starving local wide life in and around London by leaving it in strategic locations.

We were thinking of open common land, some wooded areas and also some streets that we know to have a local Fox population. Any other suggestions?
We don’t have a garden so don’t have a compost heap.
    Upset the balance of nature?
    More Rats and rodents?
Hmmm well maybe its not such a good policy from the goverment to restrict rubbish collection then. Because I am not going to store it, so I am going to dump it.
Dont waste your time, dont give in to the greed of the councils.
They have closed most of the refuse tips in my area and now we have to travel a long way to find one,
They have now dictated that we separate our waste into different wheelie bins and put them out on alternate weeks.
Now they want to half the number of times they collect the bins.

If you ask anyone in this country what the councils do for their exhorbitant poll tax, the first and probably only answer would be "They empty the bins".

Well now they are even trying to knock that on the head alltogether.

So the one answer is "Fly tip".

Oh yes I can hear the complaiints from hundreds of you saying how terrible this is and I must be crazy for even suggesting it and how bad it is for the wildlife and how bad it is for the ecology andf how bad it is for blah blah blah.

Well the one thing that is bad is the never ending increases in poll tax and the never ending cuts to public services.

When they start seeing piles of rubbish collecting on all of the country lanes then perhaps they will change their tune.

Am I ashamed? no not at all, leave your bags of rubbish all over the place and lets force them into a reversal of policy.
The worst it will do is create jobs for some more council cleaners to get rid of the mess, and before someone says "Yes but that will increase our council tax"
Your council tax is going to increase anyway, give them a reason to do it

    FLY TIP TODAY
  • any entertainment system buffs out there?

my father in law has sky plus and is able to record whatever he likes to the drive in his sky plus box!(at moment he doesnt know how to retrieve them to watch, but thats another story).
hes bought a digital dvd recorder(combo cos has video recorder also).he wants to record from his sky channels to dvd.i've been asked to go down and see if i can do it,but want to know if this is this possible before i even turn up at his house and waste my time!any help appreciated!!
on the dvd recorder there is a yellow (composite) white and red (audio) input sockets (usually used for cam corders and stuff) run the same cables from the sky to these.
while viewing the tv through the dvd recorder what ever is playing on sky will be seen and is recordable,
if there is no red white and yellow cable outputs on sky you can buy a scart to composite cable (quite cheap)run this from the scart on sky,
there could also be an easier way!!!!!!!
if the back of dvd recorder has a scart that says "vcr" run a scart from sky to this its that simple.
    good look
  • I keep reporting my neighbour the council does nothing!?

They're council tenants and haven't lived in the property for over a year... it's basically been abandoned and me and lots of other neighbours have called the council to make them aware of this... the tenants get their gardens done from the council so the gardens are well maintained but we don't feel that it's fair that there's so many people desperate for a house and these people are allowed to keep this one, why don't they do anything when we tell them this? a good house going to waste.
don't just report it to the council, they don't care. go to the benefit fraud website and report them for fraud. i did the same thing to my neighbours, and a week later they got kicked out. if you label it as it is ("fraud") then they suddenly do something.
  • I cant find my money in skyrim!?

Well i was doing the quest diplomatic immunity and everything was going well, i gave my items to the guy, i cause a distration blah blah blah, when it came time to claim my items i claimed everything but i noticed that my money was not in my inventory like its supposed to be, but it still said that i had 13,000 gold but i couldnt find it in my inventory, the only reason that i want it to be in my inventory is so that i could buy a house without wasting my money. I really need help finding it back. 10 points for best answer.
You claimed your items after completing the mission or in the room off the kitchen? If you haven't completed the mission yet you will get it from the person who took all your stuff not the guy behind the bar in the mission. If you completed the mission and didn't get it it's probably a glitch.

  • why did Hitler or his generals have Nazi troops almost reach Moscow then go to Kiev instead?

why wasted time going to Moscow and almost reach there than turn completle South to far away Kiev?

also why attacked civilians and their housing and buildings?? why waste time? (especially with winter nearly there an few coats?)

please explain what plan or idea was and WHY not secure the bottom Volaga and OIL fields FIRST?

how would have been different maybe, if had done? why his generals didnt know better? or why Hitler could play around like this in such a critical time of war?

    thanks for answers!
Hitler was an idiot he belived all Russians were Sub human so take Moscow then the the oil fields

there was a message sent to Hitler in 1940 From Albert Speer telling hitler in 1940 at our usage rate Germany will Run Out of fuel in 2 years

The russia was already supplying Germany with oil

To Germany's dismay, only a small amount of oil was ever obtained from the occupied Russian oil fields since the Russians used a scorched earth policy as they retreated. As noted earlier, prior to outbreak of World War 2, Russia was supplying Germany with about 4 million barrels of oil per year. As the war proceeded, and Germany sought to recover oil from the occupied Russian oil fields, the amount of oil recovered was about the same - 4 million barrels per year - as the Russians had supplied to Germany prior to the war. As far as the Germans solving their fuel shortage problem, the invasion of Russia came to naught

the Generals were aware of this and if you disagreed with hitler you were Replaced
  • how do i claim an empty house?

The house next door to my Uncle has been empty for about 22 years, no one has ever been into it or visited it in all that time. Is there anyway i can claim it or live in it legally? its a shame to see such a fine house go to waste.
by the way, i'm in the Uk
If you can get into it without breaking in (through an open window or door) you are NOT breaking the law.
Move in and get the gas ect connected and start paying the bills as though it's yours.
    Good Luck.

Gosh don't listen to me see Rangers answer.Sorry take no notice of mine.I thought you could just move in.
  • Combined waste drain system - leaking water from the top??

I have this waste pipe to the back of the house which carries away the toilet waste. However, today I noticed there is small water trickle eminating from the top of the pipe (remember the actual waste pipe from the toilet is connected half way down this big pipe). I cannot seem to figure out where this leak is originating from. It can't be from the toilet waste as that pipe is connected further down. There is nothing else that is going into this pipe from the top. Could it be that the water is pushing its way up the pipe somehow and then leaking out from the top somewhere? Just doesn't make any sense?! Cheers!
Thanks for the first reply..but the pipe is outside as it is found in most old properties. You are right there is that vent at the very top (I think to allow waste smell to leave from the very top of the house). It hasn't rained today so it can't be rainwater simply trickiling down this pipe...just very odd not knowing how water can be coming from the top when there is no waste water pipe connected up there?!
It appears that I may have a partial blockage somewhere either in the soil pipe or in the manhole. Either way, I think it's going to need clearing by rodding etc...has anyone ever attempted this themsleves or would you reccomend a professional drain clearer as it could get messy!
The reply concerning steam going up the pipe might be just the answer! I've noticed that the toilet flushes just fine, there is a manhole cover near the waste pipe and there is no sign of it leaking or smells coming from it, so perhaps there is no block and it is just that in cold weather (which has just started here in the UK) could be causing this steam to rise and condense at the top. I have to say I only noticed this recently and perhaps its no coincidence that the cold weather has just started. Thanks!!
In cold weather, with dishwasher, washing machine, people having baths, hot showers etc the water entering the cold pipe produces steam which goes up the pipe and condenses at the top and trickles down as water.
Water is similar to electricity in that it will take the path of least resistance., therefore if the sewer was backing- up it would flow out of the toilet bowl as toilets don't have non- return valves.
Toilets on boats have non-return valves.
