What is the best way for a D.I.Y person to cut galvanised steel plate ?
I have a piece of 6mm galvanised steel plate from which I would like to cut out a template. How can I cut it out as a d.i.y person?
Not very easily, depending on the intricacy of the template you wish to cut out, if its small, and you want or need to do it by hand, use a coping saw, or a hacksaw.
If its large, a Jigsaw with metal cutting blades will be your best bet, but be sure you have lots of spare blades, you will probably blunt or break a few on 6mm plate.
You could also try looking in your local yellow pages for metal fabricators, and see if any will cut it for you. as they will have the correct tools for the job (plasma cutters, scissor presses etc.)why all these questions on d.i.y.?
just why do people ask all these questions on d.i.y. If I couldnt do it I wouldnt start it. All those I have read up to now I could do myself and I 58 year old woman. I mean who would put tiles in there bathroom then put the sink in without realising the sink would be higher and the pipes wouldnt reach. the only good one is the person that said about staining the shed before erecting and that is yes, but do the outside agin after it up.
Surely the point of asking question is to learn ?
Can you fit a new stretcher lintel to an A frame to transfer weight to other walls rather than the internal wall plate and allow the ceiling hieght to be raised, obviously replastering, wiring and plumbing along the way ?
I can, but i don't come in here complaining about people who can't.
People should be allowed to be at different levels of competance without getting criticism form others.
I notice your "best answer" % is 4%. So that means 96% of questions you answer are not percieved as good as others. Where would we be if all those people complained about how bad your contribution was ?
And i've also looked at one of your DIY answers. The one about not capping off the hot is just plainly wrong. Service valves are not isolation valves and are prone to weeping and leaking as the ambient temperature changes. Unused hot washing machine outlets should be capped. Should i post a question about why do 58 year olds post wrong answers ?
I didn't bother with all your other answers, i'm sure they are all perfect. Is it possible to do a reasonable d-i-y job of re-enammeling a bath and if so, using what?
We're revaming the bathroom and have an iron bath (not antique but worht keeping) and I don't want to go plastic. I've heard it possible to reenamel and want to find out more?
Thanks for any and all help
I've seen it done professionally and it was rubbish, not worth trying, buy new...Can anyone tell me what the difference between types of horse liveries such as D.I.Y, full and part?
......and how much roughly I should expect to pay in Scotland for these? thanks!
DIY: you do everythign yourdelf. cheapest kind of livery, im guessing £20 a week
Part: you do some and you pay the livery yard to do whatever you dont want to do. maybe £50 a week
Full: all you do is ride (sometimes you can pay them to do that) and the livery yard will do absoulutly everything. very expensive livery usually over £100 a week
prices are guesses, you should ring round the local yards and askHow can I D I Y re-cycle my bath & shower water then store it.?
Also how can make a filter.
Filter it and use it for anything but drinking. :)
I may do the same with my toilet water yet :) loldoes anyone know i there is a building supplies store where a person can by lumber of all kinds 4 d,i,y?

bank holiday looming..i am dreading my husbands d.i.y. he is planning..as he is rubbish at it.
once he put a dado rail in the hallway...it was about 1/4 inch too long...so to make it fit...he chipped out 1/4" of wood out of the architrave around the door...i went MAD at him!!
what is your parnters worst job that made you mad too?
I'm crap at DIY the worst thing I did was to try and trim the bottom off a door so the carpet would fit, ended up in a diagonal line looking like an alligators mouth with lots of uneven teeth, had to go and buy a new door.....what d.i.y have you planned over the bank holiday weekend?
I might do some but unsure what to do, looking to see what the majority is doing
None, mi lady has been off all week and has done everything that was needed so that we can just chill over the holiday weekend. I may have to marry her!where in the northeast can I buy d.i.y. polythene double glazing sheets?
The plastic sheets are fitted to the window frame with sticky tape and a hairdryer is used to make them tight and clear...but where can I buy them? Does anyone know of a stockist? Please help the weather is getting colder and the house is chilling! Thanks
have you tried b and qto any d.i.y. people. can i install a ceramic hob and power it by a normal power socket ?
or do i have to use a proper cooker cable i think they are 10mm ..... i just want to buy one and plug it into the mains with no hassle.
A ceramic hob will have a load of 8-10 kw. (33- 42 amps) and will not work from a socket. It needs to be wired to a 32amp exclusive cooker circuit with 6²mm cable, and an DP. isolator.
Why an earth they can not prep some sticks for a couple of days at a time then they would have plenty plus all this D.I.Y stuff they could at least have the decancy to come round and just say look were are going to be doing a bit of D.I.Y today just so you are aware.
I was brought up in a way that if you was going to do something like that and you had neighbors that you took the time to go round or bump in to them and just say hope it dose not cause to much noise for you. Noooooooooooo people don't know how to be polite these days they just do what they want and others have to flaming suffer.
