I need £10,000 loan. Dose anyone know what is best. Should I go to my local high street bank or should I go to one of these lenders out the back of the local rag ?

I personally do not need a loan but a friend at work was talking about getting a loan for I think the same amount.

He looked at one of these loan shark types and said there interest seemed to be a lot higher than any high street bank so he stayed clear.

How ever he did tell me that he went to his own bank expecting them to say oh no sorry not this time. It was quite the opposite. The bank he banks with said yes Mr Smith ( not the real name ) you can have the £10,000.00 it will be on your account within I think he said something like 24 hours and I understand he got a suitable repayment plan and by the time it is paid off it would not even be near one of the higher rate interest loans.

So I would suggest that you try one of the many high street banks as you are most likely to get a really good deal.

I reckon you should stay clear of loan sharks as they seem to charge a high rate of interest and you will be paying it for years and years.
Go and have a look at acouple of the major banks that would be your best bet.

I agree with Bob, you should definitely steer clear of loan sharks, especially regarding such a large sum of money! I have heard some horrific stories about people being threatened or even physically abused by loan sharks. Your best bet would be to shop around, see which bank offers the lowest interest and then go about applying for your loan.

I also agree with Bob! I have heard so many stories about people who borrow money from loan sharks and then battle to pay it back because of the high interest rate. There are plenty of good banks out there whos staff will be more than happy to assist you in taking out a loan. Dont even consider going to a loan shark; nothing good will come of it!

  • How can sharia banks afford to give out interest free loans?

I have heard that islamic banks give out interest free loans because islam forbids charging interest. How can they afford to do this? What is the catch? What is in it for them? Why would anyone take out a regular loan with interest if this type is available?
In basic terms, the bank buys the item on your behalf - say, a house if we're talking mortgages - then sells it to you at a higher price.
  • What time do you start applying for student loans and bursaries?

    This refers to the UK.
When do you start applying for loans and bursaries?
At the moment I'm just about to start A2 in college but will shortly be applying for universities so would like to know the right time to apply for financial aid, especially bursaries.
You will be able to apply for Student Support at the same time as applying though UCAS for your University place. There will be a link from UCAS to do this about October time. I think the UCAS site will have a section to check bursaries at the different Uni's - it should tell you when and how there.

Hope that helps and good luck with your chosen course! : )
  • What would happen to the our economy if everyone stopped paying loans & mortgages?

With the country in such a state at the moment I'm sure the banks & mortgage lenders must be worried about payments not being made.
If everyone in the country stopped paying all loans, credit cards etc what would actually happen.
there are now £1500 BILLION, outstanding debts held by the UK public. If this amount (which is greater than our annual total economic output) this would be enough not just to cripple our economy, also all the countries we trade with. As it is only some of the total debt has been written off, and we already are aproaching a worldwide recession. Too much debt has been built up in the good times--weve had our party, now its time for the hangover.
  • Can Irish students receive the student loans that UK students get?

I wish to do the PGCE in England this year however financing it will be a problem for me. I was wondering if Irish students could avail of the student loans that UK students get to cover their fee's etc!
Students from any EU member country are entitled to exactly the same treatment as home students in any other EU member country. So if a British student would get a loan for this course so will you.

An international student is someone who has spent the last three years living outside the EU. This applies even if he or she has an EU member country passport.
  • How could i get the wedding loans while i have already a bad credit?

How could i get the wedding loans while i have already a bad credit?
Terrible idea! If you cannot afford a fancy wedding, tone it down so you don't have to take out a loan.
  • How can I stop my address being used to apply for loans?

I live in the U.K, and a family relation who used to live here is applying on line and getting accepted for loans. They will not be repaid. I dont know how to get this to stop. I have tried CAB and experian but no luck. I keep returning the loan offers but the offers are getting bigger. Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks.
as long as you don't have a financial connection to this person, e.g a joint account of some description, it will have no adverse affect on your credit file. What you can do for your own piece of mind is to obtain a statutory copy of your credit file with both experian and equifax, and lodge a notice of correction. What this does is show up on your credit file for lenders to see and explains that any credit taken out by the family member has no connection to you whatsoever.
  • Is there really a government scheme to get loans cancelled or is it a scam?

People keep ringing me and saying they can get my loans/credit card debts cancelled. So far I haven't responded, but is there really a government scheme and how much do you have to owe?

We have a credit card debt for about 800 pounds. Could we get some of that written off because we are on a low income and if so what's the best way to go about it?
The "scheme" does exist and is legal, however the private companies dealing with it are not too hot on morals & ethics! It isn't a scheme as such - someone has realised that many loans etc were "mis-sold" and therefore unenforceable. So if you took out a loan between certain dates then there is a chance that you may not have to pay it back, In order to qualify then you would need to speak to one of these companies and see what they have to say and how much they want for parting with their information. Personally, I'd rather pay the loan than give these people money.
If you have a recent loan that you are struggling to pay then either write to the company involved and make an offer of payment and ask for the interest to be frozen, or speak to citizens advice. Don't get involved with these vultures.
  • What is the name of the company that advertises loans on television?

It says you can get small loans from £20, and i just needed to know the website name?

    Thank you.

It's on tv in the United Kingdom, but i'm not sure about any other country.
Two spring to mind. Wonga and QuickQuid Loans. Both, of course, charge astronomical interest.
  • What student loans/grants etc would i be able to get at uni?

i am going to uni next year and cant wait, i'm so looking forward to it.

The only problem that i have is that i am a single mum on benefits, and am worried how i will afford to support my 2 kids while studying.

Has annyone got any idea of the loans/grants etc that i may be entitled to while at uni?

    thanx in advance.
    I live in the UK
You'll be entitled to a loan to pay for the tuition fees, a loan to help you live & a grant, you may also be entitled to a bursary from the uni you're attending & may be even a hardship grant.

You'll have to pay these loans back if you are earning more that £15k a year oh & remember that you have to reapply at the start of each new year.

It's a lot of really hard work, expect to spend at least eight hours a day on your course, tutors like that, treat it like a full time job that you are paying for.

    Good luck.

P.S. My Mum managed to do it as a widow with 7 children. It can be done.
