Cheque Book & Debit Cards

bordercollie's picture

Banks are fading out the traditional cheque book and a lot of places wont take a cheque anymore.

I like my cheque book I can see what I have spent better. I used to pay for everything by cheque but can't now.

I say that we should tell the banks to keep the cheque alive and don't kill it off like the shops are already doing.

All I seem to have in my wallet now a days is loads of blooming tickets from every shop I go in and quite often I am given two of the damn things and they soon mount up so more rubbish and waste then.
They even end up in the washing machine when I forget to take the out of my pockets or thinking there is nothing in them. We should just have one ticket that says you paid on your debit or credit card with the last four numbers.

Finally bring back the cheque in to full operation like it used to be.

You can't beat the old cheque book. You knew exactly where you was when you paid for things and plus with the cheque number you knew where and how much it was for etc.

Debit card is ok to a degree but some shops trade under different names so this makes it a bit harder more so if you use the card a lot.

Yes bring back the cheque book indeed. I used to pay for everything possible with a cheque. I like the fact you write in the side to whom you had paid the money to.

It's like you say Mouse. You know where you was with a cheque book but a debit or credit card lots of places tend to trade under different names to what it says on there board over there establishment.

Besides I hate all these damn bits of paper you get as some of the shops give you two tickets then you only go and loose half of them and have to think what you have spent where and when. So much for a modern age we live in.

Actually cheques are quite expensive! You pay for each cheque separately even if you make a mistake when writing it and cant use it. Personally I think it is a good thing that checks are being made redundant. Have you thought about the envornmental impact that cutting down all those trees will have? Save the environment..pay electronically!!

Yes! Down with cheques, up with environnmental awareness! I have never owned a cheque book in my life; I have always perceived them as being very time-consuming. I was however completely unaware that they were already phasing them out. My father is seldom seen without his cheque book at hand, so Im sure when I tell him about this he will be most displeased!

Cheques? Who even uses those nowadays? I'm too scared to even put a pen to one! Just one tiny mistake and it becomes unusable – then you’re forced to pay for the cost of a one, which is just ridiculous. I’m really glad they’re fading them out!

Well I still like the cheque book. Think I am a bit like your father ( cassidy ). I was not impressed to here they are fading out. When I go to the vets I always pay them by cheque and various other places. Besides I hate those damn things on the till you have to shuv the card in and half the time on the statement it says fred blogs trading plc instead of say Tesco.com or Woolworths plc then you have to think who you paid what amount to and so on. I like my nice rectangle book then i know who I have paid and when.

My bank dose not even charge me to use a cheque book. The only time I got charged was when it was a business account. I like the fact the money stays in your bank longer as well and it gives someone a job to do at the bank and keeps them in active employment.

I shall use my cheque book where I still can.

I am with sellotape100 on this one with the cheque book. I like mine a lot. I find it easy to keep track of who I have paid. I only get to the bank once a fortnight so paying such as the coal person and the log person etc it means I don't have to keep cash in the house as I am a bit remote where I am and they always accept it.

Looks like I will have to get a load of cash out for when they stop cheques totally. I shall be keeping that quiet that I have.

Well I am still going to continue to use my cheque book as much as I can up until the bank says I can not use it.

May be we should start a campagin on a well known chat site To Save The Cheque Book from total extingtion.

Save The Cheque Book. . . . Smile

What do you mean down with the cheque book. I swear by mine it's like a bible to me.

Like others say when you write it out you know where you are plus the money stays in your bank longer and it keeps someone in a job by having to process it so we are doing our bit for the economy.

So certainly going to continue using mine while I still can.

Smile The Cheque Must Live On.

You can't kill the good old cheque book off it is like it is part of the English heritage.

I also swear by my cheque book and hate those damn debit cards having to shuv it in some machine and you often end up with two or three bits of paper.

Well I am still going to use mine where I can.

You lot on about your cheque books and pens. Urmmmmmm

I only pay by plastic. Most of everything goes on the credit card cards and I just pay them off each month. I may go to the bank or well the hole in the wall as some may call it and take a couple hundred out for a bit of loose cash and stick it in a draw. I have about a tenner in cash in the car should I need for car parking and that is it.

I haven't used a cheque book for ages now. Yes I have lots of paper from different purchases but I just put a bull dog clip on them when I am in the car and take them in the house with me later. I just scribble down what I spent and keep the ones that I need to then I know what I have put on the cards. Simples really.

For me my system works. Two credit cards and one debit card pluss I pay the majority of bills in full by direct debit and just make a note in the diary when they are due to go out each month.

So I will stick with my system for which is working well.

No doubt Coolseeker will like my method. Tongue

Smile Ha, ha the good old cheque hey.

I have not seen a cheque for ages. It all seems to be a case of pay with plastic. The amount of people who you see at a till and they open there wallets and the amount of plastic some people have is just amazing.

I have to admit I used to a cheque book a long time ago but now I have about four or five cards in my wallet and one of them is my driving license card and that makes the others a debit card and two credit cards.

I will how ever admit that all those damn tickets you get when you pay on plastic are a nightmare at times, more so if you make several purchases in a day like for example if you have gone shopping or something or it is christmas.

But ok I think I will stay with the cards for now and a bit of cash put to one side. Smile

Cool I still use my cheque book from time to time such as when I go to the vets with my dogs for such as there booster jabs of if they are ill oh and the coal man. He certainly gets a cheque for what he charges for coal.

I also use plastic a lot more now but I do hate having to put it in that damn machine thing myself. As far as I am concerned they want my money they should put it in the machine and I can manage to put the number in.

I don't think I would miss the cheque book when they do phase it out but yes there is a but and that is I do like how you can keep a better track of who you pay as apposed to having countless tickets from various shops.

I see we are getting mixed views on this subject then. I like I said before will continue to use my cheque book while I still can. It will be coming out again soon for when I have to force myself to buy some coal for the open fire in the lounge. At the minute I use a log burning stove and don't need the coal at the minute but when I do it will be cheque book time.

So yeah keep the cheque going and it will keep a few more people in jobs.

Smile I got to use my cheque book the other day. I had to take my poorly dog to the vets and guess what yes I paid by cheque. Oh it felt good writing that out knowing full well they would have to wait a while for the payment to clear.

Well when I go in the vets they get the holiday brouchure to see where they are going on holiday next.

See the cheque still has a good use.

Well done you on using your cheque book you have most likely given some over paid banker a job to do at the bank by processing a cheque.

Good for you, keep it up. The cheque must live on.
