Just like to say to all whom reads this. If you are wanting a bank loan for what ever reason do not go to a loan shark. They will charge the earth.

Just for interest I made an enquiry with some outfit on the web and had advertised on the tv and compared it to the bank I use and hell do they charge a wacking great interest rate. So stay away from them.

That is good advice Mr Bodge it for now. I have never been to a loan shark for a loan but I also have heard storys that they charge a high interest rate and before you know it you can be paying back three times the amount you started with.

I would not mind a bank loan. I would pay for my neighbors to move out of the area. ( ha, ha, ha )

Puzzled I heard of someone going for a loan from one of these loan sharks type outfits and they ended up paying loads more back than what they had started with.

I'm not sure about the amount they loaned but did here it cost them and that they would not be going to one of those outfits again.

Looks like it is stay with a normal high street bank then to be on the safe side or if you can wait then save the money until you can buy or pay for the items required.

Smile A bank is the best place to get a loan. You may have to shop around at a few of the high street banks to see which is doing the best deal or and see what your own bank can offer you.

At least with a high street bank they have got to follow a set code appractice and you know exactly where you are.

These loan sharks like others have said charge a very high rate of interest and may have other hidden charges.

So it looks like the best advice is stick with a high street bank.

Smile Yes stick with the bank. I got a 5K loan from my bank and I think it was £125 per month on the repayments and as it ran against my advantage gold account I got a really good deal. I also paid it off sooner as well.

So it dose pay to stick with your bank. Other high street banks are available as the saying has it.

I'm not so great at writing comments on blog and do hesitate usually to do so but if a person is performing type off work for their visitors only than how can I be so unfair? I mean, I do write on this subject as well but for my clients so sometime I also do require some support from outside. In doing the very same work I came across to your blog and buddy, I ought to say that you're extremely excellent at it even batter than any person else. This is one of the best blog ever on this subject, which I have come across. Thanks for it.

It is so nice to see that others do take note of the various topics on the forums on here and that they may be of help to someone or even just of general interest.

Like I said above stick with a normal high street bank you know exactly where you stand.

That is some good adice given there about loans.

Could not agree more. Stick with a high street bank and at least you know exactly where you stand and that you can walk in the branch anytime and get a human being to talk to and not bombay bob in some strange country on the other end of a telephone.

  • Bank Loans....?

I am having trouble trying to get a loan with major banks. I am trying to consolidate exitsting loan & credit card buy getting 1 loan. Does anybody know where or who are offering good loans (ideally - not having to have a current account with them) where i dont have to have perfect credit rating. (am only looking for aroung 2k)
Abbey National do a good loan rate and I dont think you need to have an account with them and I have heard that Halifax are quite good. I've always got my loans from the Yorkshire Bank but I have a current account with them. I would suggest giving them a call though and asking ! good luck.
  • Bank loans - UK - is it possible to get a second loan or increase an existing loan?

My exising loan is with the Royal Bank of Scotland, I've paid off half of it over the last year, and I want to basically borrow the same amount again. Will they let me increase it or take a second loan?

I know I'll have to speak to the bank on monday, but just wondered if anybody has done this just to give me an idea?
It depends a lot on your credit history and current personal circumstances, as well as RBS's policies. Unfortunately without delving into all your details it is not possible for this question to be answered.

It might be an idea to shop around for loans though, as they are quite competitive among high street banks.
  • Question about small bank loans and using my credit card abroad?

I'm with Halifax bank and I've book a Holiday to Faliraki for the 17th this month, but after my 7 day holiday is over I will continue stay out there to work for the rest of the summer, but I need a loan of £100 for a bit of spending money to keep me on my feet, could I do that with my bank? How will I pay it back while I'm abroad? Can I still use my credit card abroad?
Yes you can use your credit card in thousands of locations around the world. All banks take Visa and Mastercard Debit and Credit cards.

You would not get a bank loan for £100 from any bank. Loans are for long term over a period of years. What you could do is use your overdraft facility with your bank or ask for an overdraft facility of £100 from your bank. This way you can be overdrawn from your account by this much without penalty.

When you get paid work in Faliraki, you can have your wages paid directly into your bank in the UK so that it will cover any debt you have spent from your overdraft. You can speak to anyone who employs you to pay wages directly into your UK bank account. All they need is your account number and sort code to set this up.
  • Bank loans on international Uni students?

So, everyone knows that you get a bank loan which you dont pay back till you get a decent job with a decent salary, for applying to uni. This is as a home student

my friend who wants to study in england now, who lives in portugal, wants to come here to study in Uni.
However the prices are already expensive... just wondering.. do international uni students get bank loans too? Or have to pay the full amount. What are the options?
International students do not get student loans as these are underwritten by the Great British Taxpayer. Moreover, you pay a higher tuition fee as home student fees are subsidised too. You will not get a student visa unless you can show you have the funds to pay the fees and to support yourself.

If you have lived for the last three years in Portugal and hold a Portuguese passport, you will be regarded as a home student and will be eligible for loans. Of course you will not need a student visa either.
  • i cant afford loans due to unemployment, i have written to the bank but they keep ringing me, i feel ashamed?

i cant afford to pay my bank loan as i am unemployed, i have written to the bank to tell them but they keep ringing me and i am to embarrassed to answer. why don't they deal with it through letters.
They will continue to ring you until you make some sort of payment arrangement. I would ring the CAB for advice. In the mean time write to them explaining your situation with a token payment of £1.00 per week as you should pay something as opposed to nothing.
  • What can you do about debts, for bank loans, if you have spinal surgery and cannot work for a year...you are?

not paying sickness insurance. Might the bank cancel your debt?
    No.

You are legally bound to pay the debt.

If you chose not to take out insurance on the loan, that's not the bank's fault. It's your fault.
  • what year did bank loans first start?

In the 16th century the goldsmith-bankers began to accept deposits, make loans and transfer funds.
  • Why do bank loans ask what your loan is for?

Isnt that your own personal business?
No. There are different rates of interest because the risk differs according to the purpose of the loan. If you borrow for cosmetic surgery, there is no tangible asset(!) against which the bank could claim if you default. If you borrow to buy a computer for your business, then there's an asset which could at least realise some value if you default.
  • What is the meaning of Bank Loans?

I am doing my Business Studies coursework. I need to know what the FULL MEANING of Bank Loan. Please give an example (if you can).
Bank loan is an amount of money loaned at interest by a bank to a borrower usually on collateral security for certain period of time.

  • UK dairy farms; subsidies, bank loans, transport improvements, developments in technology?

Please help. I need an answer for my geography project.
Sorry Marion but you will have to research this yourself. It is a huge subject.
Our local dairy farmer went out of business as the price paid for his milk was too low. Only the very large farms survive these days.
