caravans....?
...an unnecessary blight on the roads? causing travel chaos right through the summer...complete idiots pulling them with no regard for other road users... can we use the RAF to bomb them off our roads??
in my opinion, caravans and lorries should be restricted to the time of day they can travel, like lorries should only be permitted to travel at night the amount of accidents they cause!!
i was driving down the m1 the other day, and there was a ruddy caravan in the right-hand lane tootling along at 40 miles per hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
either get them off the roads, or make them travel overnight!
i'm with you to help you get them off the roads!!!!!Where can I buy fixtures and fittings for mobile homes, caravans etc?
There must be specialist places in the UK that sell furntiure, fixtures and fittings for caravans and mobile homes that are designed to be fitted in a moving vehicle to prevent breakages etc. can anyone advise me as to where I could find these things online?
Yes there are plenty, I bought a static caravan on a park, the previous owners had taken a single bed out of one of the bedrooms , leaving just one bed in that particular room, making a bed up and making sure it was immovable was no problem, and dirt cheap, the problem was the mattress, I thought maybe a fiver for good thick foam would do the job, the price for 4" foam was unbelievable!!
Then I saw an ad' in a local paper, it was a caravan breakers yard, I paid a visit, every thing you could wish for, I got what I needed for £3, had a wander around it was a little gold mine.
Try 'caravan breakers UK' onto your search engine, and good luck.
You will of course need to find the wall studs in your van to screw these into but that's not difficult. How often should we put antifreeze in our caravans central heating system?
We put antifreeze (for caravans) in our central heating system last year - do we need to do this every year or will it last for a few years?
It should be fine as the concentration will remain the same unless there's a leak or you've been working on the system. What caravans can I tow on my Driving licence?
I passed my test about three years ago, which means I do not have Category B+E. I just have category B, regarding the weight of the trailer that I can tow. I know that I am restricted from towing your standard sized caravans. The maximum weight that I am permitted to tow is 750kg according to the DVLA. I am looking at a Freedom Microlight, which is a very small caravan, however, I do not know how much it weighs. Can anyone tell me the eight of this particular caravan and the names of some other caravans that I am permitted to tow?
take it to a wiegh bridge or jack up each wheel onto s large scales and combine the total wieghts. What make of caravans are popular with travellers/gypsies?
Just interested to know as caravans fascinate me.
Usually German made caravans. They are better insulated for the cold weather, often having no toilets in the caravan too. Caravans such as the Tabbert Comtesse are very popular and also Hobby caravans. These are 2.5 metres wide, which mean under UL laws they cannot be towed by anything that does not exceed 3500kgs GVM. So, when you see them towed by Ford Transits in the UK, the outfit is no doubt illegal. Hope that helps you.Where do I find free/cheap caravans in scotland?
Where do I find free or cheap caravans between £0-500 that need doing up but structural work is okay? I find quite a lot in england. But I need the caravan delivering and in west scotland. Are there any good sites for this, or is it basically getting lucky?
Have you tried nix vans i know they were dealing in do up caravans...should caravans be allowed to travel faster than 60mph when on British motorways?
When in France and Belgium, a caravan can be towed at speeds up to 80mph.
most modern caravans are fitted with very capable stabiliser brackets which are tested at much higher speeds than 60mph. However on windy days sudden gusts can affect handling. Also poor drivers who cut up caravaners are usually the ones who moan about them all the time, so if I had the choice i would rather tow a caravan a fraction slower than the speed limit for cars to allow for all the bad drivers. So if everyone drove to their speed limits there would be no problem.Do 2 berth touring caravans have braked chasis?
I am considering buying a caravan, My car log book indicates that my maximum trailer weight is 500 Kg unbraked, 1300 Kg braked. My car is a new Fiat Bravo, the size of a ford focus. I only ask because I have seen cars of similar size towing caravans.
thanks.
I would think most if not all Caravans have brakes these days, and if I was you I would make sure that it has even if it is a small one , if you have to brake sharp with a trailer that has no brakes then you are going to have some damage.why do touring caravans have cigarette sockets installed in the interior?
I have just brought a touring caravan which is fitted with 2 cigar / cigarette holders i have no idea why these are fitted can someone explain please.
Thanks for the responce but i have a tv with a 3 pin plug do i have to buy a special adaptor to fit in the cigar socket also the toaster / kettle / hair dryer all have 3 pin plugs what can i do.
Most vans these days have a mains hook up which enable you to use your domestic 240v stuff like tv, hairdryer, electric kettle in the van using domestic type sockets.
Caravan lighting is usually 12v, and powered by the van battery.
Vanners who use sites without mains hook up facilities usually fit small 2 pin sockets to supply 12 volt accessories - but your previous owner seems to have used cigar lighter sockets. If he has wired these to the 240 volt supply, get an expert in to check it out, because he must have had a death wish.
Question is - have you got any 240 v sockets aboard, along with a mains input on the outside of the van?
I have the same problem with caravans on the road as I am sure many, many others do.
You will almost see one down some country lane and don't have a clue where they are going and to top that the caravan site where they are looking for is generally 15 miles in the other direction.
I think half of these have no idea how to tow a caravan or large tariler. I have noticed that some of the cars towing the caravan do not even look big enough to do the job they are being asked of.
I am with the above poster and think load the car up and stay in a static caravan.
