CAN HOLIDAY STATIC CARAVAN SITES PICK THE LENGH OF TIME THEY OPEN OR DO THEY HAVE TO OPEN FOR 10 MONTHS

whitt59's picture

WE OWN A STATIC CARAVAN HOLIDAY HOME ON A SITE AND WE PAY FOR 8 MONTHS.
THE SITE NOW SAYS ALL NEWCOMERS HAVE TO HAVE A 10 1/2 MONTH CONTRACT AND SAYS THE LAW HAS CHANGED AND EVERYONE ON THE SITE HAS TO HAVE A 10 1/2 MONTH CONTRACT.
ARE THEY RIGHT TO MAKE US OPT FOR THE LONGER SEASON OR ARE THEY JUST MAKING IT UP TO MAKE US PAY THE EXTRA.

ANY HELP ON THIS MATTER WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Hi there,

As it happens I was looking into a related thing not too long ago - never got anywhere with it as other things took over, but this is the sort of thing the local Trading Standards office and on a national level the Office Of Fair Trading look after. You can see where your nearest TS office is at www.tradingstandards.gov.uk.

I did a bit of googling around and found a PDF with the title "Guidance on unfair terms in holiday caravan agreements". Just google for the title and it will be the first result. This document may or may not be what your looking for. Suggest you seek advice from the TS office pronto as they will most definitly know what the legal stance is.

Good Luck mate, let us know how you get on

Unless the regulations from the council may have changed. I am thinking that if they have said it can be longer to get more people to spend more time at that caravan park and others in order to get more people in the area spending some more money to make the economy better.

The trading standards certainly dose sound a really good idea. Also I don't think you can stay in the things all year round as that would be classed a perminant home then I guess the planers would get envolved. Sounds like this could be a really interesting topic or could just be straight forward.
